Following Tornado: Update Concerning School the Week of Dec. 13-17

Update Concerning School the Week of Dec. 13-17:

Trumann School District School Family,

As you have started your day following last night’s tragedies, Trumann School District, The City of Trumann, and an abundance of volunteers have continued and will continue to come together to support each other and you. This time is something that no words can describe and the impact varies from home to home and person to person. Trumann School District will be reaching out to you and available to help in any way we can.

Several have reached out with questions regarding school being in session next week. Here are the next steps for our students:

  • If all campuses have power/electricity by Sunday evening by 6pm, we plan to have all campuses open and ready for students on Monday morning. **This could change if other unforeseen circumstances occur.**
  • We realize some students will not be able to attend school this week, regardless if campuses are open. We realize that the loss students and their families are facing is unfathomable. If this is the situation your student is facing, please contact the school via email or phone to let office staff know. In this situation, your student will be allowed additional excused absences.
  • If all campuses do not have power/electricity by Sunday evening by 6pm, we will have an AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) day. We will follow this plan each day following throughout the week.
  • If electricity is not restored on their other campuses, THS will be open during business hours. All staff will be located at that campus until electricity is restored.
  • If we have an AMI day, students will be free to work on any missed work from absences, read independently, or work online on enrichment programs (iStation, iReady, USA Test Prep, Epic). This work will not be graded and not count against students.
  • Semester Test Week for grades 7-12 (study guides and tests) has been officially moved to January 3-7. The semester is being extended to end on January 7. Study days will be on Monday, January 3 and Tuesday, January 4. Test days will be on January 5-6. Make-up testing will be on January 7.
  • Exempted Students in Grades 9-12: If students are exempt from semester tests and school campuses are open, students will now attend Dec. 13-17. Absences for the week of December 13-17 will not count against semester test exemptions. Please send a “Parent Note” to excuse the absences. This will be allowed due to the extraordinary circumstances.
  • Grades 5 and 6 will take their end of unit/chapter tests during the week of January 3-7.
  • If school is in session (if we have electricity), on Friday, December 17, TES and PreK will have their Christmas Parties on those days. Teachers will send home information about this.
  • Athletic Events: Coaches will be reaching out to players to see what is best for each team. If we need to reschedule games, we will do so. If students are available to practice/play, we will practice/play.
  • Buses will run, but will be working around closed roads and debris. Please talk to your students about avoiding power lines, metal, anything of danger.
    • Swan Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Starfish Bus- Redwood and Forest will be picked up on Woodland Circle
    • Frog Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Lion Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Squirrel Bus- Speedway meet at the corner of Ozark and Speedway or at Riverbend
    • Cat Bus- if the bus does not come to your regular stop, go to Carlson
    • Dog Bus- will run down Speedway, if passable; if not, meet at the corner of Ozark and Speedway
    • Horse Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Lizard Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Bird Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Giraffe Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Rabbit Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Rhino Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Fish Bus - no changes in bus stops
    • Mrs. Carron’s Bus - She will be making contact about any changes.

We realize that no one dreamed in 18/19 and 19/20, we would face a pandemic together. We also know that no one could imagine what the evening of December 10 would bring to our community, but through it all, we will continue to grow stronger as we work together to support each other. Please reach out if you need assistance. Check on your neighbors and friends and offer to lend a hand in the coming days/weeks. Check for updates on our social media and webpages as well as the Trumann Police Department social media page (for city updates).
